My sister called me a few days ago, because she didn’t think the furnace was heating the house.
I am not a full-time furnace repair technician, but I am currently going to school to become certified.
I told my sister that I could only lend a helping hand and I would not be able to fix the problem. The best I could do was give her an idea of what could be wrong. I went to the house last night and I could tell that the furnace wasn’t working right. The moment I walked through the door, I could tell that it wasn’t quite as warm as it should be. The temperature on the thermostat was reading 72 degrees, but it was definitely not that warm inside of the house. I told my sister to get the thermometer from the front porch and put it in the middle of the living room. I had a sneaky suspicion that the problem wasn’t the furnace, but really the thermostat. We sat around the dinner table and had spaghetti, meatballs, garlic bread, and a healthy helping of cheesecake. I wanted to give the thermostat time to calibrate before I checked the temperature. Just as I suspected, the temperature on both thermostats did not match. I told my sister that I was almost certain that she needed a new thermostat. She is going to get one sometime today and see if that fixes the problem. If it does, then I just saved my sister a ton of money.
