Making the choice to live in the very most northern region of this country isn’t done so lightly.
A person has to be completely committed to dealing with a very tough brand of winter.
And that winter lasts for months and months. A homeowner simply can’t take winter preparations lightly and manage this sort of weather. The main factor is, of course, the HVAC heating method. I have alway used the HVAC furnace to keep our household warm. I grew up in a house where my father had installed this giant beast of a boiler in our basement. That boiler was assembled in the basement; it was that huge. When my folks passed, I had to sell the house. It took an HVAC crew days to dismantle that thing. That boiler was built for many, many decades of use. But, by the time my parents were gone, a boiler was not an economically sustainable method of heating. The furnace in my home is pretty new. The one it replaced ran for nearly 25 years. However, given our situation, I wanted something that was more efficient and reliable. It was the most wise thing to replace the HVAC furnace. Our new furnace is awesome. It cut almost a third off of our utility costs. And, I am making sure that it gets all the seasonal service the old one got. I’m a big believer in the value of HVAC maintenance. It gets you through a whole lot of really cold winters, that’s for sure.
